When Sophia B. Packard and Harriet E. Giles chose to found Spelman College, they had a $100 pledge and a determination to make a difference in the lives of the students they dreamed about. Times have changed, but the need to have a place of higher education to prepare Black women and girls to change the world has not. Since 1914, Alumnae of Spelman have sought to continue the bonds of fellowship with one another, and further the mission of the College beyond the gates.

Today, The National Alumnae Association of Spelman College, Inc. (NAASC) is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to support Spelman College, a historically black college for women, through financial gifts, student recruitment, community service, and recognition of Spelman Women.

Scholarship Donation

One of the key ways that the Chapter lives out these aims is through our scholarship initiatives. Since 1977, the Chapter has raised over $350,000 that has gone to students in the form of scholarships and book awards. With the rising cost of higher education, continuing to provide avenues for students to make college affordable is paramount.

The NAASC – Atlanta Chapter has established two scholarship programs to support deserving students pay for their college education.

Also, on rare occasions, students experience unforeseen hardships while in school. The Barbara Buckley Emergency Fund is available to address the emergency needs of students. Contact scholarships@naascatlanta.org for more information.

Partnership Opportunities

Community partnerships are an important part of the success of our Chapter initiatives. Businesses, organizations, and individuals not only donate to our scholarship funds, but also sponsor events and provide other types of donations.
