Alleviating the Financial Burden for the Next Generation
In 1977, the annual Scholarship Fundraiser was created to raise money for the chapter’s scholarship fund. Since inception, the cost of tuition for one year rose from $1,800 to now exceeding $25,000. Spelman is proud of its 76 percent graduation rate; however, many young women are unable to reach their post-secondary educational dreams due to lack of finances.
Each year the chapter hosts a power-packed event, with more than 400 in attendance, that is designed to inspire and empower. During this event, the chapter not only awards scholarships, but honors alumnae who have made significant contributions to our community and world.
We Made the Choice: Legacy Rising
Join us virtually, Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 11 a.m. EST, as we honor women who have made the choice to change the world in business, industry, civic engagement and beyond. The extraordinary work of these women is a testament to the strong foundation provided by Spelman to impact society.
Supporting our fundraiser means we are able to cover 100% of the tuition for senior scholar and 50% tuition a sophomore scholar.
2022 Honorees
Every year the NAASC – Atlanta Chapter’s highest honors and awards are presented at the Atlanta Annual Scholarship Fundraiser. Fellow alumnae nominate the award recipients in three main categories:
- Distinguished Alumna Award
- Outstanding Community Service Award
- Trailblazer Award
To recognize truly extraordinary achievement, in certain years the Chapter also awards the True Blue award.
We proudly present the 2022 Award Honorees:
Adrienne Lance Lucas, C’90 – Distinguished Alumna Award
Dr. Victoria Seals, C’91 – Community Service Award
Cheryl Taylor, C’72 – Trailblazer Award
Scholars
The NAASC – Atlanta Chapter is committed to supporting Spelman College in a number of ways, including providing scholarships to deserving students from the Metro Atlanta area. In that spirit, preserving the legacy of the College through scholarship is truly at the driving force behind the Annual Scholarship Fundraiser.
The Chapter currently maintains two local scholarship recipients – a sophomore who receives up to 50% of her tuition and fees, and a senior who receives up to 100% of her tuition and fees. In addition, the Chapter supports one endowed scholar.

Continuing the Legacy
Every alumna has helped continue the indelible legacy of Spelman College – educating black women who change the world. Let’s ensure that legacy continues by supporting this event and our Spelman sisters. They need us more than ever, and we must be vigilant in making the choice to be undaunted by the fight.
Why Sponsor
While Spelman College has one of the highest graduation rates in the nation, only 76% of the women who enter graduate. The financial burden of a post-secondary education is the primary reason. That’s why our Scholarship Fundraiser is essential. Your support means you are giving the next generation of Spelman women the opportunity to change the world.
Our Event Sponsors
The NAASC – Atlanta Chapter would like to thank our generous sponsors for this year’s scholarship event.
